Victor Hugo was a good friend of Ambroise Calfa and his wife Marie Calfa. Toward the end of their life, they used the name Guy and Marie de Lusignan (Princesse de Lusignan), even if there was no actual proven linkage with the Cilician kings and queens.

Victor Hugo spent the last years of his life in a mansion owned by Marie and Ambrois Calfa (Calfayan).

They rented the house to him for 8 years, and they were neighbours since they were living in the house right next to this one.

Ambroise Calfa had introduced Victor Hugot to his brother Khoren, which was Patriarch of Istanbul.

Apparently Khoren and Hugo became good friends and Khoren introduced Hugo to armenian litterature, and specifically to Catholicos Movses Shnorhali (Klayetsi) poems and hymns, to the point that Victor knew by heart some of these works.
